The sky was magnificent right after the rain and just before the next storm band moved through. Truly amazing.
Evan and I started the trek back to the house sooner than Hugh and Tanner, who needed to see if those encroaching clouds really meant more rain. Evan and I hadn't been back in the house ten minutes when the bottom fell out. The rain hitting our tin roof was near deafening :-) ....and Hugh and Tanner were still at the beach....did I mention it was dark? We jumped in the car and drove back along our street to the beach access, our eyes peeled in the dark and driving rain for any sign of a wet dad and brother......nothing. We did this three times...nothing. We went back to the house. No one. We drove again...along the same beach route we take daily....and finally see the wettest, coldest, most exhausted boys we knew! We pulled over and couldn't wait to hear the exciting adventure they must have been on to be out in the non-stop torrential rain for over half an hour.....and they said, "We got lost."
Excuse me, WHAT?! Our house is about 4 blocks from the beach down a perfectly straight road....no curves, no sharp turns...straight. and we have traversed it a zillion times.
Why does anxiety and fear often turn to mild frustration when you find what you thought was perilously lost? Mostly when you find it and it wasn't attacked by a great white or swiftly carried out to sea by a raging rip current......:-)
Evan and I were certainly glad they were ok....but we did chuckle just a bit at being lost...glad the guard at the entrance knew where Endless Summer Way was! :-)
