First break....

Ok. So as a mom of boys, I knew it would happen. In fact, I'd had a taste of it when Tanner had seven stitches in the ER at three years old. But, you are never ready.... Especially when you are spending 24 hours at the hospital and can do absolutely nothing when you check the texts on your phone and see that "FCA called...on way to pick up Tanner... think he broke his finger.."
And that's when your heart breaks....just like a nine year old's finger bone. Because when a mama's heart breaks for her child, the only thing that makes it whole again is to hold that child close- no matter their age-until you know it's going to be ok. But what to do when you can't be there?
You pray.....a lot. You humble your "control-freak" self before God  and you say thank you.
Thank you for "just a broken finger". Thank you for a father and husband who amazes me more the longer I know him.... who can hold a bag with one hand while a broken-fingered child vomits into it from pain, and drive a truck with the other...... Who can feel my desire to run from all these "other mamas' babies" to my own, but calmly reassures me that it will all be ok and he promises to text me EVERYTHING.... between vomits, of course..... Who has a job of his own, but selflessly finds a way to drop it all at a moment's notice for his children and his wife......simply. amazing.
And you say thank you for all of it.... For what it shows us of our fragility and our own brokenness.... Our ever-present Savior-need. It can all be overwhelming at times.... a son breaks... mom falls and could have broken.....a cousin falls and a lip breaks....a sister waits for a surgical break.....
But He is there....in all the breaks....He surely knows broken....He lets us in on the Savior-Secret.... When you are broken, then you can be redeemed, renewed, and restored.
I'm so thankful for that.
